The genesis of mycelium, ready to inoculate.
Key points
- Living mycelium in nutrient suspension, injection‑ready
- 9 species to explore & learn
- Sterile 10 ml syringe with needle, lab format
- Swiss artisan prep & QC
- Designed to inoculate sterile grain jars or bags with injection ports
What it’s for
Liquid culture carries active mycelium in a sterile medium for direct injection into sterile grains (injectable lids/bags). It enables a fast, clean initial colonisation before moving to the final substrate.
Why you’ll adopt it
- Precise starting point for grows and experiments
- Simple handling with proper gear — great for workshops & schools
- Flexible & economical: one syringe covers multiple inoculations
Contents & composition
Format: sterile 10 ml syringe
Medium: low‑sugar sterile nutrient (e.g., LME 2–4% or equivalent)
Appearance: visible mycelial filaments/flocs that may settle; swirl gently before use
Syringe & needle: 10 ml Luer‑Lock with travel cap; sterile standard needle (18–20G)
Species offered:
Grey oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) · Blue oyster (P. ostreatus var. columbinus) · Pink oyster (P. djamor) · Elm oyster (Hypsizygus ulmarius) · Black Pearl (P. ostreatus × eryngii) · Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) · Chestnut (Pholiota adiposa) · Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) · Tinder fungus (Fomes fomentarius)
How to use
Prep
Clean surface, sanitise hands/tools.
Ready sterile grain jars with injectable lids or bags with ports.
Gently agitate syringe.
Inoculate
Fit sterile needle
Sanitise port. Inject 1–2 ml per 1 L jar (0.5–1 ml for 500 ml)
Flame/sanitise needle between jars.
Incubate
20–24 °C, clean & dark.
Signs in 3–7 days; full colonisation in 7–21 days (species‑dependent).
Transfer & fruit
Use colonised grain to seed final substrate (pasteurised straw, sterilised hardwood sawdust, chips).
See table below for fruiting.
Specs & recommendations
- Storage: 2–8 °C; best within 2–3 months. Do not freeze.
- Protection: keep from direct sun & prolonged heat.
- Shipping: few days at ambient is OK; refrigerate on receipt.
- Yield: 10 ml ≈ 5–10 × 1 L jars (dose/technique dependent).
- Good practice: strict hygiene; clean ports; gentle shake after injection; avoid over‑dosing.

FAQ
Difference vs grain spawn?
Liquid culture inoculates your own grains/substrates — more rigor, more freedom & learning.
How many inoculations from 10 ml?
Typically 5–10 × 1 L jars.
Can I inject into a bag without a port?
Not recommended. Use a clean port or very controlled environment.
Shelf life?
2–8 °C; ideally within 2–3 months. Do not freeze.
Flocs/sediment?
Normal. Gently homogenise before use.
